Book Club Thursday Night!

Hi all — The North Pinellas Republican Club History Group will meet at 6 pm on Thursday, September 13, at the IHOP Restaurant, 30200 US Hwy 19, Clearwater.  It’ll be covering, as previously announced, the history of England during the years 1000 – 1200.They included, to name just a few, King Canute (aka Cnut), the first Viking king to rule all of England (in 1016), the Norman conquest in 1066, the first use, in 1137, of the title Prince of Wales, and the rise in 1154 of the House of Plantagenet with King Henry II, and the capture of Richard I in 1193 by  Henry VI, the Holy Roman Emperor (who demanded a ransom of an amount 2 to 3 times the annual income of the Crown, which was paid in 1194).   ( Interesting note:  the House of Plantagenet continued until the death in battle in 1485 of Richard III during the thirty year long conflict known as the Wars of the Roses, after which it was succeeded by the House of Tudor.) Feel free to contribute ideas and subjects that add to our understanding of this era, which has been called the most influential for establishing the direction of what would eventually become the British Empire.
