It’s always great to be an American, and it is especially great to be a Republican American, and really, really great to be a member of the North Pinellas Republican Club on Kentucky Derby Day, because that is the day, each year for the past four years, that we have held our Kentucky Derby Party. Look at all the great fun more than 100 guests had that afternoon, at the beautiful home of our club’s past president, John Downes and Mary, here in the best part of Florida’s best county.  Here is member Sylvia Sullivan, winner of our Derby Hat contest, club president Ron Walker addressing he crowd from the dais, and Florida Senate candidate Ed Hooper with wife Lee, standing under the Kentucky Derby Arch. Club member Linda Wade won the dessert contest with her “Better than Redford” cake; PJ Dillon from St. Petersburg took second prize with a Punch Bowl Cake and Jude Zentmeyer’s Bacon Chocolate Bomb cake finished third of the score or more of desserts served. While other politicians and parties growl and grumble over made-up issues andset themselves up as modern day Puritans, we Republicans can have fun celebrating a piece of Americana, the Kentucky Derby, with fun, friends, prizes and success.
